Why am I Here?

Hallelujah 🙂

That’s why!

One of my favorite stories about Creation comes from Swami Satchidananda.  He says something like:

In the beginning, there was just God. God being God, God, God, God, my God what am I doing?

So God decided to create something out of Godself.  Like God created a giant piece of cardboard.

But then, what is the fun with just one piece of cardboard?  So God cut it up into pieces, 52 pieces.

Even though, 52 cards? So what!  So God painted the cards with different colors and numbers and faces, and now God can have some fun!

Of course, God is not limited and doesn’t need a deck of cards to have fun – but the story can help us understand.

The Creation is for fun!  human bodies are like cards in the cosmic deck, and God is the master card player.

Some teachers say that all we need to realize is that we are not doing anything, that we are just puppet and God is the master puppeteer, pulling all the strings and having tons of fun.

It is all for fun!  Realizing it is all for fun, that God is Infinite Love and Peace and nothing else, and that God is everywhere and always present, all-powerful and all-knowing, is a peak state of awareness and the pinnacle of understanding and realization in the human domain.

We go through life getting rubbed and scrubbed, until we surrender.  We start by operating with an idea of separateness, run by survival fear, motivated by gaining and experiencing pleasure.  That is the ego operating.  Gradually, we realize and surrender to the fact that we are more than the ego – we are more than the primitive animal drives – and we realize our interconnectedness with all life.  We realize that the same Power is moving through everyone and everything.  We see that even though these human animals are painted different colors and have different faces drawn on them, they are all cards made by the same Creator and being played by the same master card player.

We are not doing anything!  We are just like tops, spinning.  God is in charge.  What a relief!  The more we surrender, the more we let go, the more we relax, we discover how wonderfully we are cared for and loved every moment.

Gloria in Excelsis Deo!

  1. Suscipe, Domine, universam meam libertatem.
Take, Lord, and receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding and my entire will. All I have and call my own, You have given to me; to you, Lord, I return it. Everything is yours; do with it what you will. Give me only your love and your grace. That is enough for me.
